What the Research Says About Beetroot and Performance
Dietary nitrate has been studied for its effect on exercise performance since the late 2000s.
Bailey et al. (2009) found that nitrate supplementation reduced the oxygen cost of submaximal exercise and extended time-to-exhaustion by up to 16% in healthy adults.

Powder vs Standard Juice
Beetroot juice is the most commonly studied form. However, the nitrate content of commercially available juice varies considerably.
Gallardo & Coggan (2019) analysed multiple beetroot products and found significant variation in nitrate content — both between brands and between batches of the same brand. This makes standard juice difficult to use for precise performance protocols.
Powder, when properly processed, offers a more practical alternative. It can be dosed by weight, mixed into water, and taken without the volume of juice required to hit the effective nitrate range.

Capsules: Convenient, But Limited

This doesn't mean capsules are useless. For general health — blood pressure support, antioxidant intake — they may be adequate. For measurable performance changes, the research suggests they are less likely to be effective at standard doses.
