Performance Metrics: VO₂max & Threshold Progression

Progress is data-driven. Here’s a look at the last three bike lab tests of Olympic Rower Sophie Souwer, tracking key physiological markers from October (starting to use Stamox ) through December.

Testing Stamox supplementation

“These are the 3 test of Sophie done October (starting with Stamox) November and December.

As you can see there is a clear improvement on the lower range, and in the time she was able to spend at maximal watt.”

says Coach and Olympian Martino Goretti

VO2 max & threshold progression charts showing athlete performance gains over 3 months with beetroot powder

Findings

VO₂max: Increase to 51 ml/kg/min.

Aerobic Threshold (VT1): Jumped to 73%—better efficiency.

Lactate Threshold (VT2): Steady climb from 82% → 87% → 88% - showing excellent lactate threshold development.

We’re seeing a clear improvement at the lower end of the power curve, building a stronger aerobic engine.

Just as importantly, the time now spend at maximal wattage has increased—meaning Sophie can push harder, for longer, when it counts.

The athlete is building a strong, balanced physiological profile with room for continued growth across all energy systems.

This is the foundation we’re building for the 2026 season and beyond: World Cups, European & World Championships... and, ultimately, the road to Los Angeles 2028.

On individual results:

Performance gains are highly individual and depend on a multitude of factors, including an athlete’s training age, genetic predisposition, training plan, overall diet, and so on. This was a performance report on a single athlete, tested by themselves. The pattern of the data is highly consistent with the scientifically documented effect of beetroot supplementation, and athlete’ own results using Stamox.
